Oak Woodland Restoration and Career Pathways Project

The Los Angeles Zoo and (OBA) have partnered together for the Oak Woodland Restoration and Career Pathways Project – a grant funded project by the State of California.
Beginning April 2025, OBA’s Environmental Restoration Team started work inside the Zoo’s Oak Woodland Restoration site, six acres of undeveloped oak woodland habitat located on the western edge of Zoo’s borders.
OBA’s Environmental Restoration Team will collaborate with the Zoo and work at the restoration site 3-4 days per week, with the project expected to span 5 years. The start of this project will focus on removing man-made refuse and deadfall from the site and begin construction of a native plant nursery. This project will not only enhance local wildlife habitats, including resources for native pollinators, birds, and other animals, but also provide invaluable hands-on conservation education and career development opportunities for youth from disadvantaged communities. The Los Angeles Zoo is proud to be part of this transformative initiative that will engage the next generation of conservation leaders.
